Like most companies introducing a new product into the marketplace, ASUL's r+d approach followed a traditional process of multiple prototyping.
Prototype 1 was a fixed floor plan product for the modern, pre-fab market; it was built in a factory and tested on multiple sites.
Prototype 2 was designed and built to be a temporary dwelling capable of continuous transport and deployment; it was also factory-built and traveled the country on a flat-bed trailer.
Prototype 3 tested a Mass Customization approach to housing; it utilized a systems-based design methodology and a kit of parts site-built assembly process.
The success of Prototype 3 led to the launch of our Adaptable System for Universal Living or ASUL.
